Comparing Approximations to the Binomial Distribution

If n is large and p is small the Poisson approximation can be used.

If n is large, np not less than 5 and n(1-p) is not less than 5 a normal approximation can be used.

Enter values for n, p, x1, x2 and x3.

The program will provide probabilities: P(X ≤ x1), P(X ≤ x2) and P(X ≤ x3) calculated using the binomial distribution and the poisson and normal approximations.
